ACTA Submission to AMEP Evaluation
ACTA has submitted a thorough submission to The Evaluation of the AMEP “new business model”. The submission highlights that the primary goal of AMEP is to assist adult migrants in learning English. The submission outlines a range of issues identified in aliginging the AMEP with the SEE program and makes a range of recommendations to be implemented.

Term 2 PD: Brian Dare presents Supporting EAL/D students from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds in primary and secondary classrooms
Brian Dare is heading to Perth and WATESOL are lucky enough to have secured him to run a PD on April 30th from 3.45-5.30pm.
Brian Dare will be presenting an interactive professional learning session for primary and secondary teachers working with English as an Additional Language/Dialect
students. His presentation will focus on the importance of knowing the cultural and linguistic background of EAL/D students to assist them in learning across the curriculum.
This session is suitable for primary and secondary teachers working in mainstream classrooms as well as in Intensive English Centres.

ACTA AGM – April 18th
Australian Council of TESOL Associations (ACTA) Annual General Meeting
ACTA is holding its annual general meeting on Thursday 18 April, 7pm AEDT. Please contact the ACTA secretary if you wish to participate. Secretary@tesol.org.auACTA is the national coordinating body for all associations of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) across Australia. Membership of ACTA comes automatically through membership of one of its constituent associations.All members of TESOL associations are welcome to attend the AGM.ACTA is made up of councillors from each state and territory association. Councillors, need to be nominated by state and territory TESOL associations. Only TESOL association councillors or their designated proxies are entitled to vote at the AGM.ACTA Objectives
- to represent and support the interests of teachers of English to speakers of other languages and dialects and their students
- to ensure access to appropriate English language instruction for speakers of other languages and dialects
- to encourage implementation and delivery of quality professional programs at all levels
- to promote study, research and development of TESOL at local, regional, national and international levels.
5th ALRF Colloquium: Language, Identity and Culture in Education
This colloquium will bring together leading and emerging applied linguists to discuss different linguistic rationales for opportunities and challenges for language, identity and culture in critical language education contexts.
The sessions will offer new levels of analysis to common approaches to language education, offering researchers, teachers and practitioners complex and critical perspectives on multilingual and multicultural diversity in an increasingly globalised world.
