Helen Adam presents “The lack of culturally diverse literature in classrooms and what it means for EAL/D students.”
Helen Adam, an Academic Lecturer from Edith Cowan University, will present this interesting session about authentic texts. Participants will be provided with an overview of research from around the world and her own research into this area, particularly in relation to cultural diversity.
This will be considered in the light of the impact of such limited collections on children’s developing sense of identity, social and emotional development and intercultural awareness. Evidence based frameworks to guide careful criteria for selecting children’s literature for use across the curriculum will be presented and discussed.
