SUMMARY:Write On: Practical Approaches to Written Corrective Feedback (WCF)
  in EAL/D Classrooms
DESCRIPTION:* Members - remember to log in to receive your free ticket.\n\n
**Non-members - the price of a ticket is equivalent to the cost of WATESOL
membership. Consider joining for a free ticket!\n\nThis presentation expl
ores practical strategies for providing written corrective feedback (WCF)
on linguistic errors that empower learners rather than discourage them. Dr
awing on findings from her PhD research\, together with classroom experien
ce and theoretical knowledge\, Waruni Iresha Ekanayaka will discuss how fe
edback can move beyond simply 'fixing mistakes' to fostering confident\, i
ndependent writers in EAL/D classrooms. She will present a strategic appro
ach to WCF\, focusing on practical techniques that address diverse learner
needs and different stages of writing development.\n\nShe will address th
e key questions of WCF:\n\n What it is and why it matters\n How it works
\n How much and when to give feedback\n What comes next for WCF to be tr
uly effective\n\nWaruni Iresha Ekanayaka is a teacher at Cyril Jackson Sen
ior Campus with extensive experience in language education. Prior to this\
, she worked as a lecturer at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura\, Sri
Lanka. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Linguisti
cs\, a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics\, and a PhD from Curtin Un
iversity\, where she was awarded the Walter de Neal Award for Excellence i
n Educational Research (2023). Her doctoral research examined the efficacy
of teachers’ direct and semi-focused written corrective feedback on lea
rners’ linguistic accuracy and writing fluency. She has published severa
l works in the field of WCF\, and her research interests include written c
 orrective feedback\, code-switching\, and task-based language teaching.\n\
