BRiTA Futures Building Resilience in Transcultural Australians- teacher training
(Course materials and catering included)
WATESOL is offering training for those interested in becoming BRITA Futures Program Facilitators of the Adolescent Program.
BRiTA Futures – “Building Resilience in Transcultural Australians” – is a group-based program designed for children, adolescents or adults with a CaLD background who are learning to live in a new and different culture. The program includes learning activities to strengthen participants’ personal and social resources – to build resilience – so they can have a brighter life in their everyday environment. It has been developed by the Queensland Transcultural Mental Health Centre (QTMHC).
The Adolescent program consists of 10 x 2 hour sessions designed to address the special issues faced by young people aged between 12 and 18 years developing between two (or more) cultures. It helps young people explore what it means to be bicultural in Australia and strengthen their cultural identity. Topics include cultural identity, stress, building positive relationships, conflict resolution, values and spirituality. Students build skills and attitudes for facing the challenges they could encounter at home, at school and in their communities, so they can make successful transitions through adolescence.
The program has been successfully run at a number of schools in WA since initially being launched in 2013 and this is only the third time facilitator training has been offered.
